A man who knows when to enter, and when to leave
Maxwell "Max" Montclair owns an exclusive casino where fortunes change hands beneath crystal chandeliers. Charming, polished, and perpetually connected, he knows how to make everyone feel like a favourite while revealing very little himself. Max joins the opening social period as a visiting guest and departs on his own schedule.
Max once proposed turning one of Cornelius's properties into a luxurious casino hotel. Cornelius declined, firmly and without a complete explanation. Max respected the decision, even if he still believes it would have been a spectacular venture.
The wagering and hospitality circle: the Sinclairs, the Ashfords, and the architect who designed the property in question.
Charming owner of the city's most exclusive casino
Charming owner of the city's most exclusive casino. Max understands that a casino is only partly about money: people reveal themselves when they win, lose, or think no one is watching. He has come to pay his respects and see which of Cornelius's acquaintances is suddenly interested in his affairs.
Smooth, amused, and never the one asking for anything. Compliments the house, the drinks, and the hosts, then mentions his own casino once. Talks about luck as though it were a person he knows well. Leaves conversations a sentence before they are over, and leaves the party the same way.
